Lualdi Advisors has agreed to sell GRINDER — its coffee futures-desk software — to a US-based trading house. The transaction transfers the platform in full: the codebase, the data pipelines, and the operator relationships built around it, to a buyer whose core business is coffee trading rather than quantitative advisory.

The transaction

GRINDER is the firm's futures-desk workflow, publishing a daily price band and time window across the Arabica and Robusta curve for buyers who hedge or bid against physical positions. The buyer takes on the full operator base, the underlying infrastructure, and ongoing development of the platform.

"GRINDER was built by a quantitative advisory firm for an industry we serve, not one we trade in ourselves. A trading house lives inside that market every day. That is a better permanent home for the platform than we can offer from the outside."

— Alex Lualdi - CEO, Lualdi Advisors

Why now

Lualdi Advisors builds quantitative tools where the firm's own research gives it an edge worth productising. GRINDER reached the point where continued ownership added less to the firm's core advisory and research mandate than it added risk of divided attention.

The firm's remaining product suite — SIGMA, WARREN, MITHRIL, and the rest of the model stack — sits closer to the firm's own quantitative research programme and stays in-house. GRINDER sat one layer further out: valuable, well-used, but adjacent to a market the firm advises on rather than one it trades.

What this means

Advisory, research, and every other capability at the firm continue unaffected, on the standard engagement model: by introduction or referral.

// The closing thought

Lualdi Advisors builds what its research gives it a genuine edge on. GRINDER served that purpose for a time, and served it well. A trading house now owns the market it was built for. The firm keeps building where its own edge is sharpest.
