A standing research programme inside the firm, studying what can actually be measured from orbit — and what cannot. Imagery, environmental sensing, movement and built-surface signal are assessed the same way we assess any input: for reliability, for latency, and for whether the reading survives independent confirmation. The output is method, not opinion.
Situational awareness is usually assembled by hand — an imagery source in one window, a movement tracker in another, an environmental feed in a third — and stitched together by an analyst under time pressure. The interesting question is not whether those feeds exist. It is which of them are dependable enough to put in front of a decision, at what delay, and with what margin of error.

The interval between something happening and it becoming reliably detectable. That lag decides whether a reading is decision-grade or merely historical.

The tempo of ports, terminals, corridors and industrial sites read as a time series, and how far ahead of conventional reporting that series can be trusted to run.
Whether observation of a company's physical estate anticipates what its filings describe a quarter later — and in which sectors that relationship holds rather than flatters.
How decisions taken on paper surface in the landscape, and how long the lag runs between a change of designation and a change on the ground.
The cross-cutting thread: attaching a source, a timestamp and a stated confidence to every reading, so a conclusion can be re-examined by someone who was not in the room.
The discipline is not the cleverness of any single measurement. It is that each observation is traceable to the source it came from, stamped with when it was taken, and published with the confidence it actually earns. Where a signal cannot be corroborated, the programme says so and leaves it there. Research that cannot be checked is not research; it is an assertion with a chart attached.

The firm's Mallorca office now carries a dedicated space for the geospatial research team — a permanent home for the programme rather than a desk borrowed between mandates. It sits alongside the engineering bench, which is deliberate: the shortest path from a research finding to something a client can actually run is a short walk across a room.
